I have various friends who go to the same place on holiday every year. Some have a holiday home in a fabulous location which is excusable, however we only live once and to go the same place every year reduces the amount of new experiences people could have! How strange. It was my new year’s resolution to go to two places each year from 2010 forwards and I have never been to the same holiday destination twice. This year it is Corfu and New York, next year it will be Australia to see the family and Ibiza to party with the girls! Excellent!

At the moment there is an advert on my favourite Manchester radio station that says you can win a flight to Chicago and a trip down the iconic route 66 by simply flagging certain taxi’s in Manchester city centre on each Friday in June. This is such a great idea to promote certain areas of the world where tourism may be dipping slightly. Obviously these taxi’s will probably charge the earth and the likelihood of winning something is not good but there’s always that little bit of hope that would encourage me to jump in one of these branded taxi’s rather than a normal black cab! The chance of winning a holiday has always been a good prize to offer when promoting anything, and in this instance the cab firm will win when it gets more business and the tourist board in Chicago will probably see more tourism from people who listen to the same radio station as myself!
My cousin moved out to Australia a couple of years ago and she has just had her first baby! Congratulations Lisa! I was thinking about going out to see her in January to check out the kid and see the house they bought, but also to get some winter sun and yesterday was checking out flight prices. Did you realise it is over a grand to fly to Australia from the UK? I was shocked considering you can get to Turkey for about £60 if you get a good deal! When they moved out they sold their two up, two down Barrat home and now they live in a detached, four bedroom house with two living rooms, a massive kitchen, two bathrooms and a swimming pool! All for the same price as their tiny house in the UK. It’s worth thinking about if you can stand the heat and moving to the other side of the world where your family have to pay over a grand to come visit!
OMG, you’re back to read about Kavos yes? Well let me tell you it was amazing!! True, we were never going to get any sleep, however we didn’t want to when there was so much going on! Everyone was so friendly and up for a good time. We didn’t get involved with the 18-30’s reps who were really annoying and who tried to sell us loads of excursions, instead we partied at night, made friends and lazed by the pool in the day. I would definitely recommend doing what we did- just go on the spur of the moment and enjoy yourself! However make sure you buy air con for your hotel if it doesn’t have it already and try to sleep the night before you fly home as we got delayed and hadn’t slept for 2 days. It’s safe to say we were very tired. Best holiday ever!
So you go into a travel agent’s, slap down your credit card on the desk and say “I want to go on holiday please, i’ve got £350 quid and I want to see the sea!” What do you expect when you book it because you get giddy and then realise you are going on an 18-30’s holiday to party central?! This is the dilemma I and my best friend are in currently. We are about to jet off to Kavos in Corfu in two days time and after reading the reviews online we are either going to have the best time ever and be drunk for the entire week or we are going to have to max out our credit cards and book into another hotel far, far away from the one we’re due to stay in! Tune in after the 18th for my own review!!
